Great Lakes Region Hammered by Summer Storms

Breitbart news service reports today on the continuing weather nightmare in the upper American Midwest saying,

CHICAGO (AP) - Ferocious thunderstorms, heat and humidity added to the Midwest's flooding misery Friday as thousands of people returned to damaged homes, many without electricity to run fans or pumps.

A sudden thunderstorm with 70 mph wind slammed into the Chicago area Thursday evening, tearing down huge trees and damaging buildings. In the suburbs, part of an industrial facility's roof collapsed, injuring 40 people, and a tornado was reported as the storm moved into Michigan.

Early Friday, another band of thunderstorms was dumping more rain along a line from southern Iowa into Wisconsin…

… Nearly a week of heavy rain and devastating flooding across the upper Midwest has damaged hundreds of homes and has been blamed for at least 16 deaths, including two on Thursday.

The seemingly never ending series of violent thunderstorms continue to buffet Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana as well. In northern Illinois and Michigan alone some 425,000 homes have been left without power and countless more throughout the region have been damaged by uncontrollable flood waters.

Air travel in the upper Midwest is in an ongoing standstill as O’Hare airport was forced to cancel some 500 flights on Thursday alone.

What is worse, heat and humidity continue to pound the flood and storm ravaged region leaving inhabitants with little relief even in the absence of rainfall and strong wind. The end of this storm system cannot arrive fast enough.
